Dan Kimball’s book
“They Like Jesus but not the Church” moves me two ways simultaneously. Kimball says things to us that we must say we like about reaching people graciously. At the same time, he writes about all of the terrible things we do in the church to drive people away and unfortunately, they are also mostly true. The answer is to preach the truth in love–that is a lot easier to write about than to do. He writes about tatoos, goths, lesbians, fundamentalists. He hits everybody. The tension is in not throwing the baby out with the bath water.
