Hanna Ouchterlony, not a complementarian

April 25th, 2006

This Swedish Evangelist in the Salvation Army was definitely not a complementarian at the turn of the 19th into the 20th century.  She followed the footsteps of Catherine Booth quite well. Hanna Ouchterlony, not a complementarian

Now here is a problem to watch out for, complementarian

Student organization asserting complementarian vision within ‘milieu of rampant egalitarianism’ at Wheaton College.   [from the CBMW.org web site]

I  suppose that there could be other rampant problems at Wheaton, but this one will do.   Now here is a problem to watch out for, complementarian

Poker still most searched online word, 104 weeks in a row

April 24th, 2006

For 104 weeks in a row, the word “poker” is the most searched word on the web.  It seems to me that the church, the Bible and God would have something to say about all of this.  Poker still most searched online word

Harriet Newell died at age 19 in Calcutta, a complementarian?

April 24th, 2006

She sailed together with Adoniram Judson from Boston in 1812, unfortunately she died quickly in Calcutta.  Many did.  Was she a complementarian?  Does it really make any difference? Harriet Newell died at age 19 in Calcutta, a complementarian?

“Star Trek”, “The Outer Limits” and Trinitarian, complementarian thinking

April 22nd, 2006

It amuses me that many of the same theologians [read "men"] who want to “subordinate” women also want to “subordinate” the Son of God-forever! Now there is a happy and Biblical thought for all on the starship Enterprise to enjoy on this Easter season. “Star Trek”, “The Outer Limits” and Trinitarian, complementarian thinking

Now for a word from Mars, complementarian

April 22nd, 2006

I was reading an article by an outspoken complementarian [and a great brother, by the way] the other day. He stated that it was “morally rebellious” for married people to deliberately choose childlessness.  Now there is a word from the Bible if I ever read one.  It is utterly amazing to me how cavalierly these eisegetes declare anyone who disagrees with them to be in “moral rebellion” against God.  The thought police are out there to teach us discipline. Maybe I should decree that anyone who does not live in Montana [like me and Ted Turner, on occasion] to be in “moral rebellion” against God. Now for a word from Mars, complementarian

Walter Martin, Trinitarian Theology, The Trinity

April 20th, 2006

“Every major cult and non-Christian religion which seeks to deride orthodox theology continually attacks the doctrine of the Trinity.”[p. 116, Jehovah of the Watchtower, Walter Martin]

Jessie McDonald [1887-1980] Surgeon to China, complementarian?

April 20th, 2006

She worked in China as the first female surgeon under the CIM from 1913-1952. She finally retired in 1952 after 39 years of loyal service. I wonder if complementarian theologians would allow this lady in their pulpits? Probably not, wrong hormones and everything. Jessie McDonald [1887-1980] Surgeon to China, complementarian?

A Movie for Che lovers

MOVIE YOU HAVE TO SEE

By malkin

It’s called “The Lost City” and it’s an anti-Castro film directed by and starring Andy Garcia:

Roger L. Simon endorses:

Last night I attended the premiere of Cuban-American actor/director Andy Garcia’s The Lost City (trailer here), which opens next week. The movie is an epic about a Cuban family in the time immediately before and after the revolution. One brother is a social democrat, one a committed Fidelista and the third (Garcia) is the Bogartish owner of El Tropico, an Afro-Cuban night club where much of the action takes place. (The movie is infused with Cuban music and dance and has a sensational sound track.) The screenplay is by the recently deceased Cuban novelist Cabrera Infante who was an early on a supporter of Fidel and then decamped for Paris as the regime became more totalitarian.Andy, a friend of mine, has been working on this film for eighteen years, so to say it is a labor of love is an understatement. The movie is in many senses the story of Garcia’s own family and is infused with a passion almost never seen in commercial filmmaking these days. When his character makes the final decision to leave Havana for New York, the scene of his departure is gut-wrenching. You feel Garcia’s own father climbing onto that DC3. This is a real “cinema from the heart.”

J.B. Bendel also saw it and recommends:

The Lost City opens in New York (and White Plains), Los Angles and Miami on the 28th, rolling out to additional cities in succeeding weeks. It is well worth looking for. Since it takes on Hollywood sacred cows, like Che and Castro, this film will need word of mouth support. The film critics of the antique media won’t help. The blogosphere needs to get behind it.

Spread the word.
